Palmetto Dunes Hilton Head Island

So I don’t know about you, but when we vacation we like to keep it pretty low key. I like to stay close to our vacation spot and try to avoid the crowds the best I can. The one place we have found with plenty of activities for the kids and crowd control, has been at Palmetto Dunes on Hilton Head Island.

There is so much to do and it is by far one of my favorite family friendly communities. Having 2 boys requires lots of activities being planned. The beach is so versatile which is what we love most about this location. The sand is hard packed when there is a low tide, and results in an extremely wide beach space. This makes it much more useful for bike riding, sand castle building, kit flying and the ability to play sports without sinking and struggling to walk.

Our children love this active community. In Hilton Head everyone rides bikes, everywhere!  If you are not able to bring your own bike, there is a bike rental shop located at Outfitters on Queens Folly. They offer so much for outdoor entertainment including kayaks, canoes and even surf lessons. It also helps that the people who work there are incredibly nice.

Let's not forget about our fury children! Did I mention that the beaches are pet friendly?! Every evening at 5:00 pm the beach allows you to bring your fur babies out to join in on the fun. Our Millie girl had an absolute blast, jumping waves and exploring new wildlife!

Now let’s talk food! Oh yeah!! Our family always looks forward to binging on all the local goodies. First thing in the morning, we start with Stacks Pancakes. Located on Regency Pkwy, this is an amazing locally owned restaurant the serves breakfast and lunch. I highly recommend the Creme Brûlée French Toast. You can thank me later!
To save money, we tend to dine in for lunch. Usually we hit up the local grocery store when we get to town and stock up the fridge. If you roll into town on a Saturday, I would try to avoid the grocery like the plague. Hold out till Sunday morning if possible. Again, you’ll thank me!
If you decide to head out for lunch, you may enjoy the Salty Dog Cafe located in the Tanger 2 shopping center. They have amazing fish tacos and the caesar salad is incredible.

After a long day of bike riding and lounging on the beach, it’s time to relax and refuel. I have two restaurants that I highly recommend.
The first is Scotts Fish Market located on Harbourside Ln.  They are vegetarian friendly and also have gluten free options, which I love since I tend to have tummy issues from time to time. This is a location our entire family enjoys. Live music on the patio with a spectacular view and the service is always great!
Last but never least is Alfred’s, located on William Hilton Pkwy. If you are looking for an amazing date night, this is your place.  Make sure to ask about the specials! By far the best meal I’ve had in years.

This is how we like to spend our 7 days of vacation time each year. I hope you will take a chance on this location. You will love it!
